Guide
Someone else's music is on your Spotify artist profile (or yours is on theirs)
A stranger's single just appeared on your profile, or your new release landed on an artist page that is not yours. Both are the same problem, called a content mismatch, and both are fixed the same way.

Short answer
A content mismatch happens when a distributor delivers a release with an artist name that already exists on Spotify and no artist ID to tell them apart, so Spotify attaches it to the wrong profile. To fix it, use the content mismatch form in Spotify for Artists or your distributor's profile tool, such as DistroKid's Fixer, with the release link and the correct profile link. Spotify usually moves the release within a few days. To prevent it, give your distributor your Spotify artist URI on every future release.
What to do, in order
Collect the links
Copy the Spotify link of the mis-filed release, the link of the profile it is on, and the link of the profile it should be on. If a stranger's release is on your profile, you need the release link and your profile link.
Use the content mismatch form
In Spotify for Artists, open Help and search for content mismatch, or ask your distributor to submit it. Give both profile links and the release link, and state in one line what should move where. If the release is yours, your distributor can often file it faster because they can prove delivery.
Ask the distributor to fix it on their side too
Most distributors have a profile tool: DistroKid calls it Fixer, others handle it through support. Ask them to attach your Spotify artist URI to the release so a re-delivery does not undo the move.
Verify the move
Check both profiles after a few days. Make sure your release count, your discography order and your About section are intact. If a stranger's release remains, submit the form again with a note that the first request was not completed.
Prevent the next one
Add your Spotify artist URI to your distributor account and to every new release. Artists who share a name with someone else should also claim their profile in Spotify for Artists so future deliveries have an owner to match against.
Why profiles get mixed up
Spotify matches releases to profiles by name unless the delivery carries a specific artist identifier. Two artists called the same thing, or a name that is also a common word, will collide. A release can also split a profile: half your catalog on one page, half on a new one, because one delivery carried the identifier and another did not.
What a stranger's release on your profile means
Usually nothing malicious. Another artist with your name delivered a release without an identifier. Occasionally it is deliberate: someone attached their track to an established profile to borrow its listeners. In both cases the fix is the same form, and in the deliberate case it is worth keeping screenshots in case it repeats.
The release is not yours, so you cannot take it down. You can only ask for it to be moved. If it keeps happening, claim your profile and report it to Spotify for Artists support with the dates.
What to include in the form
Short and complete gets the fastest answer.
- The release link and the artist name on it.
- The profile link where it is now and the profile link where it belongs.
- Whether the release is yours or someone else's.
- Your Spotify artist URI if you have claimed your profile.
How Traxure helps
Traxure watches your profile for releases you never imported and alerts you when one appears, so a stranger's track is noticed the same hour rather than when a fan asks about it. It also alerts you when a release of yours stops appearing on your profile, which is what a mismatch looks like from your side. Monitoring starts with a seven-day free trial.
Questions artists ask
How do I remove someone else's song from my Spotify artist profile?
You cannot take it down because it is not your release, but you can have it moved. Submit the content mismatch form in Spotify for Artists with the release link and both profile links, or ask your distributor to file it.
My new release went to a different artist with my name. What do I do?
File the content mismatch form or ask your distributor to use their profile tool with your Spotify artist URI. Then add the URI to your distributor account so the next release lands on the right profile.
How long does a profile fix take?
Spotify usually moves the release within a few days. Check both profiles afterwards and resubmit if anything is still in the wrong place.
How do I stop it happening again?
Claim your profile in Spotify for Artists and give your distributor your Spotify artist URI for every release. Deliveries that carry the identifier are matched to the right profile.
