AI artists on Spotify: the rules, the badges and what to do about fakes
Spotify doesn't ban music made with AI tools. Its rules are about deception: cloning a voice without permission, delivering tracks to someone else's profile, flooding the service with spam, or presenting an AI-generated person as a real artist. If AI music lands on your profile, or something copies your voice, there are specific routes to report it.

Short answer
Spotify allows music made with AI tools, but vocal impersonation is only allowed when the impersonated artist has authorized it. Profiles presenting an AI-generated photorealistic person can carry an AI Persona or Likely AI Persona badge, and their music isn't included in editorial or personalized recommendations. If AI music appears on your profile, file a content mismatch report. If it clones your voice, use Spotify's legal form and choose Publicity / Likeness.
What to do, in order
Check your profile
Look through your releases on Spotify for anything you didn't put out, including under Appears On, and note the title, link and date you found it.
Report music on your profile
If another artist's music, including AI-generated music, is showing on your profile, file a content mismatch report through Spotify for Artists.
Report a cloned voice
Spotify removes music that uses an artist's voice without permission, whether it's cloned with AI or made another way, though certain parody can be an exception. The artist, or someone acting for them, submits a claim through Spotify's legal form and chooses Publicity / Likeness.
Tell your distributor
Send your distributor the links and ask it to check how the release was delivered to your profile. Keep the replies.
Look for Artist Profile Protection
It's in beta for a limited group of artists. Log in at artists.spotify.com and check the menu under your avatar. If you see it, turn it on so you're notified about releases delivered with your name.
Check the other stores
The same upload may have gone to other services. Search for the title and your name there too, and report it on each one.
What Spotify's rules cover
Spotify announced stronger AI protections in September 2025. It also said it had removed over 75 million spammy tracks in the previous 12 months.
- Voice clones: vocal impersonation is only allowed when the impersonated artist has authorized it.
- Fraudulent deliveries: Spotify said it's testing prevention with distributors against uploads sent to another artist's profile.
- Spam: it announced a filter to tag uploaders and tracks using tactics such as mass uploads and duplicates, and stop recommending them.
- Disclosure: it's supporting a DDEX standard so credits can show where AI played a role in vocals, instrumentation or post-production. Spotify says disclosing won't lead to penalties or down-ranking.
AI Persona badges
An AI Persona is an artist whose public identity is an AI-generated photorealistic human. The badge is about the identity you present, not whether you use AI to make music, and it doesn't apply if you only use AI tools.
- AI Persona means the artist disclosed it themselves in Spotify for Artists.
- Likely AI Persona means Spotify's review reached that conclusion. You can confirm it or appeal, and you can't remove it yourself.
- Music from AI Personas isn't included in editorial or personalized recommendations, unless a listener actively chooses to engage, such as by following the artist.
- The badges are rolling out gradually, so some listeners may not see them yet.
Can AI artists get verified?
Profiles that mainly represent AI-generated or AI-persona artists aren't eligible for the Verified by Spotify badge. Artists who use AI tools responsibly in their creative process can qualify, as long as they present themselves authentically.
What Artist Profile Protection does
By default, you're notified when a release is delivered with your name attached, and you can remove yourself from eligible releases for up to 28 days after it goes live. If you do nothing, it goes live with you listed. Some artists can also test a setting that requires approval first.
It has limits. During the beta, releases from some providers may not be eligible, and it doesn't fix typos or wrong roles. You may still need Spotify's separate reporting routes.
How Traxure helps
Traxure watches your own profile between your logins. It checks your Spotify profile every 12 hours and your full catalog every day, so a release you didn't list is flagged as unexpected and you can act quickly. AI clone detection isn't available yet, so Traxure won't find a copy of your voice on someone else's profile. Traxure doesn't send reports for you, but it gives you the details to send. Monitoring starts with a seven-day free trial.
Spotify's rules were checked on its own pages on 2 November 2026.
Questions artists ask
Does Spotify allow AI-generated music?
Spotify's published rules target deception and spam rather than AI tools themselves. You can't clone another artist's voice without permission, and spam tactics or a deceptive identity can bring other consequences.
How can I tell if an artist on Spotify is AI?
Look for an AI Persona or Likely AI Persona badge, though they're still rolling out. Credits may also show where AI was used, if the distributor added them. A missing badge doesn't prove anything either way.
Someone used AI to copy my voice. What do I do?
Submit a claim through Spotify's legal form and choose Publicity / Likeness. You or someone acting for you can file it. Spotify needs a claim because it can't tell by itself whether the use was cleared.
An AI song appeared on my profile. How do I remove it?
File a content mismatch report through Spotify for Artists. Spotify's help pages say this route covers another artist's music on your profile, including AI-generated music.
Will using AI tools get my music taken down?
Spotify says the AI Persona badge doesn't apply if you only use AI tools to make your music, and that disclosing AI in your credits won't lead to penalties. Its other rules, such as those on impersonation and spam, still apply.
